Weymouth & Portland Olympic & Paralympic Sailors

The Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta in Weymouth and Portland at the beginning of June is the final pre-event for Paralympic and Olympic sailors before the Olympic and Paralympic Games.  This was the prefect event for the sailors to have the opportunity to choose their Woolsack cushions.

Organisers put up posters to spread the news to all the teams arriving at Weymouth from around the world.

Next task - to get 469 cushions to Portland and then to unload - help from staff much appreciated!

The cushions, all carefully sorted and checked, were put in special red Woolsack bags for easy collection by each team.  We'd been provided with the numbers of Olympic and Paralympic sailors for each country so each bag was labelled with the name of the country and the number of cushions.  Finally the bags were placed in the Media Centre, the collection point for teams - it's sights like this that really bring home the amazing achievement of all the groups and individuals that have been involved in making these special British wool cushions.

Special thanks to all the people and staff involved with Skandia Sail For Gold who helped the Woolsack Project get the cushions to the Olympic and Paralympic Sailors.  The main focus for the sailors of course is the competition, but we were delighted that even as the cushions were being unloaded, the USA sailing team took to time to tweet their thanks to all the makers.

We also received other tweets of thanks from sailors and these lovely photographs of some of the sailors enjoying their cushions. (all the photos below were taken by Tina Varkey)
