the people and stories behind the cushions

There are many different ways of using British wool to make a cushion - knitting, felting, crochet, weaving, sewing wool fabric, embroidery on wool, and tapestry being the main crafts involved.

This versatility in wool means that anyone who wants to contribute towards making a cushion can do so and many people are learning new craft skills in the process.

Each cushion has a label with a personal message from the maker to the recipient.  Some of the people who included contact details on their label have had a message of personal thanks from the athlete who received their cushion.  Some of these can be seen here

You can see photographs and read stories about individuals and groups who are joining in with the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in a personal way through Woolsack in the section on Past Stuffing Events
